Internship details
Data Analysis & Machine Learning remote internships are perfect for anyone interested in instrumentation or measurement systems. Interns are matched with technical consultancy firms, which work in the fields of industrial research and education. Remote interns learn about image classification, nanomaterials and customized laboratory software for data acquisition.
This is a remote internship you can conduct from home.
This Data Analysis & Machine Learning remote internship is focused on the fields of Engineering and Computer Science. If you have an interest and background in engineering, data processing, and software development, then you are an ideal participant for this internship.
As an intern, you’ll be matched with a technical consultancy firm that supports industrial research and educational activities in the marine, automotive and agricultural sectors. You can focus your internship on either image classification and analysis of nanomaterials, or customized laboratory software for data acquisition.
When interning in image classification and nanomaterial analysis, you’ll gain valuable skills in understanding and assessing images, and learning recognition techniques. You’ll learn about the classification of a range of material, including nanomaterial and marine/aquarius species, and gain experience developing industrial grade data acquisition setups, in order to educate engineers on IoT systems, remote measurement and data collection techniques.
Interns who focus on data acquisition and analysis can expect to gain real-world experience in dynamic activities related to training datasets, extracting information from images, acquiring/analyzing data, and creating professional reports.
If you’re looking to boost your resume, develop your network, and gain real-world software development and engineering experience that can complement your studies, this remote internship provides practical insight into a growing field with broad possibilities.
Remote interns maintain regular contact with your supervisor in Greece through emails and video conferences. Your supervisor will help to give feedback on your progress, to fortify your learning, answer your questions, and provide updates in regard to activities and tasks. This will mean you’ll need to be available for occasional meetings during office hours in Greece.
In all cases, interns should expect that the initial phase of their remote internship will focus on gaining some introductory knowledge. You may start by gaining an understanding or overview of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

What recent Data Analysis & Machine Learning interns said about their experience
My internship experience has been great. I expected to have a hard time communicating with my professors because of the time zone difference, however, sending emails was a great way to combat that issue. My role during the internship was to analyse nano-images of composite material through a microscope. To do this, I used Ilastik and ImageJ to find the probability of decoration particles on the substrate particles. Data analysis is very important to my long-term goals – as I want to be a biomedical engineer. As a biomedical engineer ill need the skills to analyze cells under a microscope. This internship has introduced the basics of analysis and what to look for. I now feel more empowered in my field because through this internship I was able to gain experience with analyzing particles. I truly believe that this internship will help me in my future career. It also helped open my eyes to what I desire to be in the future. I feel empowered to do my best when I arrive in college.
My internship experience has been full and rich. I was given tasks by my supervisors, whose patience made me feel respected and motivated to speak up when there was something I did not understand. In the future I want to apply technical skills to solve practical issues, and in this internship, I was able to use open-source software Ilastik and imageJ, as well as the programming language Python to perform image analysis. I now feel more empowered in my field, as I was pushed to learn new software I previously believed would be much too hard to master. This internship has allowed me to familiarize ideas of machine learning and strengthen my computational skills, which will prove incredibly helpful in my future development. From here, I have a desire to further strengthen my understanding and ability of machine learning, searching for more learning materials and seeking more internship opportunities.
