This remote internship in finance and business consulting offers hands-on experience in preparing investment assessments, developing strategic business plans, and providing management consulting reports for local businesses in Tanzania, many of which are international agri-businesses and pharmaceutical companies.
Online finance and business interns are placed with local companies, and interns are mentored by an experienced supervisor. This is as close as you can get to working in the business and finance industries as an intern.
Tanzania has a strong local economy, with a wide variety of market opportunities offering valuable resume-building experiences for interns, along with insight into international approaches and East African culture.
In all cases, interns should expect that the initial phase of their remote internship will focus on gaining some introductory knowledge. You may start by gaining an understanding or overview of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
Understand and expect that individual internship experiences vary. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.

What recent Finance & Business Consulting interns said about their experience
What I enjoyed most about the remote Finance & Business Consulting internship in Tanzania was the opportunity to collaborate with people from a different cultural background, which broadened my perspective and taught me new ways of thinking. The experience helped me develop stronger communication skills, especially when adapting to different cultural norms and expectations. I also learned to be more flexible and open-minded, which will be valuable in any future workplace. Overall, the internship contributed to both my personal growth and professional development by enhancing my cultural competence and teamwork abilities.
Before COVID-19 started, I knew that I had to do an internship in order for me to graduate on time. I applied to more than 30 companies for internships and then began to receive rejected emails. Some companies called to inform me that the internship will be postponed until further notice because of COVID-19. Half of the companies couldn't move forward with me because of the COVID-19! I was so worried because I really wanted to graduate on time, so I started doing research and found RISEWAY. I made the decision to use them for my internship, as I refused to allow COVID-19 to affect me from graduating on time. That was the best decision I ever made - my internship experience with RISEWAY was great! My internship role was related to my major, which is finance. I had a wonderful supervisor, with excellent teaching skills, who made sure that I practiced what I was taught. The internship gave me a greater understanding of how an organization operates as a whole and it helped me to understand the importance of finance in every company and how to manage it. The cultural differences were also great to experience and I learned so much. One piece of advice I would share with a future intern is to be yourself and give yourself time to adapt.
